Cupertino-based software developer Apple has recently announced the launch of a new program that would allow educational institutions to get a 50% discount when making bulk purchases. Apple calls this program the App Store Volume Purchase Program; as part of the program, educational institutions will be able to purchase apps at half the price only if they purchase more than 20 apps.

Educational institutions that want to take advantage of Apple’s App Store Volume Purchase Program can easily do so. They must first get an Authorized Purchaser to obtain a Program Facilitator account. To get started and get the 50% discount, the Program Facilitator then needs to click the Redeem Voucher link on the App Store Volume Purchase Program site that Apple set up (visit here). After purchasing volume vouchers (worth between $100 and $10,000) the Program Facilitator can use the vouchers to buy apps from Apple’s App Store.

This program is great from two points of view. First of all, the App Store Volume Purchase Program because it offers educational institutions who want to purchase a large amount of applications, a means of saving some money. I think you will agree that a 50% discount is significant – not to mention that developers can offer additional discounts if they so desire. Secondly, this program is great because it does away with the need to create countless individual iTunes accounts.

If you want to find out more about how the App Store Volume Purchase Program works, Apple has put together a FAQ page that you can visit by clicking here. If you would much rather talk to an Apple Education sales representative, you can do so by phone – call 1-800-800-APPL (1-800-800-2775 option 2, then option 2 again).
